Description
Historical Dividend Yield & Earnings Yield
Ever find a nice setup on a stock chart, but wish you had a quick way to know how fundamentally cheap or expensive it is without having to switch to a different screen or platform? Do you like the idea of having a confirming indicator based on fundamentals instead of just technical data? Then the Historical Dividend Yield indicator set may be for you.
This Thinkscript plots the Historical Dividend Yield or Earnings Yield for each wave up and down on a chart, so you can see how high and low the yields usually get, and use that to gauge how overbought/oversold the stock may currently be based on those reference points. Additionally, this indicator can plot retracement levels on your chart representing the equivalent current price of the highest and lowest yields ever recorded, as well as the midpoint, 25% and 75% levels, and a simple average. These levels represent areas that you might want the stock to retrace to in order to be considered cheap or expensive, by historical standards, in terms of its yield.
Not all stocks respond well to this type of support and resistance, but you’ll find that many respond exceptionally well to it. This is likely because of pensioners, retirees, and other long term dividend investors, who live and die by the yields on their portfolios. Any time one of these stocks starts getting oversold to an attractive yield level, these investors quickly recognize a bargain and tend to snatch up any loose shares they can get their hands on. So you’ll find that this type of dynamic support and resistance based on yields can be an eye-opening way to look at what’s really driving the markets behind many of these stocks.
All in all, this indicator can help you zero-in on the price levels that you might want to be buying at if price retraces back to that area. In addition, it can also give you a quick statistical read out in labels at the top of your chart, of where the stock has traded before in terms of yields, what its historical range has been, and where it currently sits in that relative environment.
